On 15 October 2026, Minister Zhang Zhixin of the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended and addressed the “Safe Study Abroad” UK Seminar. Xi Ru from the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Chinese Ministry of Education also attended and addressed the event. More than 40 representatives of Chinese students studying in the UK attended in person, while over 1,800 people watched the livestream online.

Minister Zhang said that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in the UK are committed to serving the people through diplomacy and take the safety and interests of Chinese students in the UK seriously. He noted that 2026 marks the beginning of China's 15th Five-Year Plan period and that Chinese modernisation has unprecedentedly bright prospects, offering a broad stage for aspiring young people to put their talents to good use. He encouraged Chinese students in the UK to carry forward the fine tradition of studying abroad to serve their country, develop skills and capabilities, promote cultural exchanges and mutual learning, and enhance their awareness and ability to guard against risks while studying abroad.

During the lecture, a video produced by the UK's National Crime Agency was shown. A consular official from the Chinese Embassy, the president of the UK Society of Chinese Lawyers, other Chinese and British experts, and a representative of Chinese students shared their insights on a range of topics, including British law, fraud prevention, consular protection cases, mental health, study-abroad services and personal experiences of studying in the UK.
