On 22 September, Chargé d’Affaires Wang Qi of the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended a celebration of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China by overseas Chinese in the UK. More than 500 guests from various sectors attended the event, including Du Borui, Chairman of the Celebration Organising Committee, Chu Ting Tang, Chairman of the London Chinatown Chinese Association, Councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, Lord Mayor of Westminster, and the leaders of nearly 100 overseas Chinese organisations in the UK. In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Wang extended festive greetings to the Chinese community in the UK. He reviewed the remarkable achievements made since the founding of New China 76 years ago, noting that the Communist Party of China has remained committed to exercising full and rigorous governance over the Party and is leading the Chinese people on a new journey towards national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation. China has commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, put forward the Global Governance Initiative, and resolutely advanced the cause of national reunification. Chargé d’Affaires Wang stressed the need for China and the UK to fully implement the important consensus reached between the leaders of the two countries and to work together to open a new chapter in bilateral relations. He called on the Chinese community in the UK to continue supporting each other, moving forward in solidarity, and making greater contributions to friendly exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and British people.
