On 19 September, the Chinese Embassy in the UK held a reception to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Chargé d’Affaires Wang Qi of the Embassy and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office Seema Malhotra MP addressed the occasion. More than 500 guests attended the reception, including Britons from various sectors and representatives of Chinese institutions and students in the UK. In his remarks, Chargé d’Affaires Wang highlighted the remarkable achievements China has made since the founding of the People’s Republic 76 years ago. He noted that, since the start of the new era, the Communist Party of China has exercised full and rigorous governance over the Party, adhered to a people-centred approach, and led the Chinese people in advancing the great cause of building a strong country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernisation. Notable progress has been made in poverty alleviation and high-quality development, drawing worldwide attention. China has commemorated the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War, and has put forward the Global Governance Initiative and other public goods aimed at building a community with a shared future for humanity. China stands ready to work with the UK to fully implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries and jointly write a new chapter in China-UK relations. Chinese and British artists jointly presented wonderful performances at the reception, which was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
