On 19 July 2025, Minister Wang Qi of the Chinese Embassy in the UK attended an “In the Footsteps of George Hogg” reception jointly hosted by the Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding and CGTN Europe in London. The event gathered nearly 100 participants from various sectors of China and the UK. In his remarks, Minister Wang noted that this year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. The story of George Hogg, a young Briton who gave his life in support of China’s resistance, remains deeply moving. China made a significant contribution to the global victory against fascism. China will always stand on the right side of history, advocate an equal and orderly multipolar world and a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalisation, promote a community with a shared future for mankind, and contribute to the cause of peace and development. He called on the people in both countries to carry forward the friendly ties forged during the war, enhance mutual communication and understanding, and do more to strengthen the friendship between the two peoples.
