On September 29 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond of the UK in New York of the US.
Wang Yi noted that President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to the UK at the invitation of Queen Elizabeth II of the UK next month. The visit will chart the course for the future development of China-UK relations and map out the long-term plan for bilateral cooperation in various fields. In recent years, the two sides have enjoyed frequent high-level exchanges and successively held the third meeting of China-UK High-Level People-to-People Exchange Mechanism, the seventh China-UK Economic and Financial Dialogue and the China-UK Strategic Dialogue, making sound preparation and laying solid foundation for President Xi Jinping's visit to the UK. The working teams of both sides should join efforts to ensure a complete success of and fruitful results from the visit.
Philip Hammond said that the UK is earnestly looking forward to the state visit to the UK paid by President Xi Jinping next month, and will accelerate all the preparatory work. The UK hopes that this visit could help elevate bilateral relations, and promote bilateral cooperation in economy, trade, finance, investment, infrastructure construction and other bilateral fields as well as international and regional affairs.
