On 13 February 2020, the UK’s Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) announced that it has completed Step 3 of the generic design assessment of UK HPR1000 (Hualong-1), the Chinese nuclear reactor design, and made the decision to progress it to Step 4, the final stage of the assessment. This marks a crucial step forward for the design to be used in the UK.
