On 10 December 2013, Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry Huang Ping held a consular meeting with Director of Consular Services of the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Charles Hay in Beijing. The two sides had in-depth exchange of views on consular cooperation and the negotiation on signing a bilateral consular agreement.
