On 2 December 2013, President Xi Jinping met with UK Prime Minister David Cameron at Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.

      Xi Jinping stressed that both China and the UK are major economies in the world as well as permanent members of the UN Security Council. The relations between the two countries not only concern their respective development, but also have significant global influence. Both sides should take the high ground, transcend differences in national conditions, political systems and values, deepen mutual understanding, respect each other, treat each other as equals, accommodate each other's major concerns and core interests, enhance mutual trust and plan for the future of China-UK relations so as to push for long-term healthy development of bilateral cooperation.

      Xi Jinping pointed out that the economies of China and the UK are highly complementary to each other, with a sound foundation of cooperation and broad prospects. We are fully deepening reform and opening up, focusing on the transformation of economic development mode and the adjustment of economic structure and accelerating the pace of businesses going global in accordance with the overall deployment made by the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. The UK is known for the service industry especially the financial service sector, and is also vigorously promoting reform. Foreign investment is welcomed. It is the right time for both sides to strengthen cooperation. Hope the UK will be more active and open in cooperating with China and create a more relaxed environment. Both sides may also learn from each other in the field of reform and innovation. Xi Jinping pointed out that the global economic recovery is now at a critical juncture and the international pattern is undergoing profound changes. China and the UK should strengthen communication and cooperation on international affairs and advocate the new ideas of peace, development, cooperation and win-win outcomes in international relations so as to jointly cope with global challenges.

      Cameron expressed that China's development is an epochal event in the 21st century. It not only benefits the Chinese people, but is also an important opportunity to the world. The Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee has worked out a grand blueprint for China's future development, which is impressive. I believe that China will undoubtedly be able to realize its set goals and I am ready to have an in-depth understanding of the process of reform and opening up in China. The UK attaches great importance to China's success as well as UK-China cooperation. The UK is ready to maintain high-level exchanges with China and to strengthen dialogue based on mutual respect to deepen understanding. China's expansion of domestic demands is a huge business opportunity to the UK. China is welcomed to invest in infrastructure construction, nuclear power and other fields in the UK. The UK is ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China on major international and regional issues so as to jointly safeguard global peace and security and to promote stable recovery and sustainable development of global economy.
