Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with British Foreign Secretary William Hague
2013-11-24 22:36

On 23 November 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with British Foreign Secretary William Hague in Geneva.

Wang Yi said that China-UK relations are gradually moving back on the right track since last June. He expressed the hope that the two sides will rebuild and consolidate mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and develop the China-UK comprehensive strategic partnership on the basis of mutual respect and accommodating each other's major concerns.

Hague said that the UK attaches great importance to UK-China relationship and is ready to work with the Chinese side, on the basis of mutual respect, to deepen mutual trust, advance pragmatic cooperation in trade, technology, education and other fields and enhance communication and coordination in international and regional affairs.

Wang Yi pointed out that the dialogue between P5+1 and Iran on the Iranian nuclear issue has come to a critical moment. All parties should bear in mind the overall interests of peace in the Middle East, demonstrate flexibility, work together for the same goal and strive to achieve results in the current round of dialogue and create conditions for promoting political settlement of the issue.

Hague said the British side has a positive evaluation of the cooperation with the Chinese side on the Iranian nuclear issue and is willing to make concerted efforts with China to push for results in the talks.
