2013-01-16 19:31

LONDON, Jan. 15th (www.people.com.cn/Li Wenyun)- On January 15th, the two-month exhibition “Contemporary Chinese Seals by Li Lanqing” was successfully concluded at the British Museum, London.

The exhibition was co-organized by the Organizing Committee of the Exhibition of Contemporary Chinese Seals by Li Lanqing, the Chinese Embassy in the U.K., the British Museum and the National Art Museum of China. It was another large-scale overseas show following those held in Singapore, Russia, France and Indonesia.

The exhibition features 110 selected works of carved seals and calligraphy by Li Lanqing as well as a collection of seals he specially made for this exhibition. Mr. Li Lanqing also donated 14 name seals he specially made for this exhibition, including “The British Museum”, “William Shakespeare” and “Isaac Newton” to the British Museum, which decided to add them to its permanent collection.

While fully presenting the charm of the Chinese culture and art, the exhibition also involves 14 special economic, trade, educational, cultural and art exchange activities, including the China-UK Business Luncheon, the China-UK Infrastructure Investment Cooperation Round Table Conference, the China-UK Service Outsourcing Cooperation Round Table Conference, and CEIBS’“CHENGWEI Europe Forum 2012” co-organized by China’s Ministry of Commerce and the relevant institutions in the UK. The activities helped Chinese and British entrepreneurs to explore new opportunities of investment and cooperation based on the consensuses they reached on government support, financial support, and cooperation model, etc.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Education and Hanban (Confucius Institute Headquarters) also organized a series of activities, including the Symposium on Improving National Quality Education and Presentation Ceremony of the Book Education for 1.3 Billion, and lectures and trainings on seals and Chinese calligraphy.

In addition, the British Museum also arranged several other activities, like the musical performance, the lecture on Chinese calligraphy and seal-carving, the guided art gallery tours, and a Christmas Family Program, to make the exhibition more vivid and colorful.

The activities of the exhibition “Contemporary Chinese Seal by Li Lanqing” received active support and participation of both China and the UK. Political leaders of China and the UK, including Lord Charles Powell, Chairman of the British government's Asia Task Force, Mr. Ken Clarke, U.K. Minister without Portfolio, Mr. Cheng Siwei, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, Mr. Liu Xiaoming, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, Ms. Zhao Shaohua, Deputy Minister of Culture of China, Mr. Liao Xiaoqi, former Deputy Minister of Commerce, attended the related activities and delivered a speech.

The exhibition “Contemporary Chinese Seals by Li Lanqing” held in Britain was a great success. It successfully displayed to the UK and other European countries the rich and profound Chinese traditional culture, which facilitated the implementation of the "going global" strategy of Chinese culture, education and business, deepened Sino-British exchanges and cooperation in the fields of culture, education, economy and trade, and enhanced the mutual trust and friendship of the two peoples.
