Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on the Disruption of Premier Wen Jiabao's Delivery of Speech in UK
2009-02-03 22:14

Q: on February 2nd, when Premier Wen Jiabao was giving a speech at the University of Cambridge, a man tried to disrupt the speech. What's your comment?

A: Premier Wen Jiabao was invited to give a speech entitled "See China in the Light of Her Development" at the University of Cambridge. He was warmly welcomed by the Cambridge faculty and students. During the speech, a man desperately tried to disrupt the order in the hall and the delivery of the speech. His behavior met strong opposition of the entire audience. He was booed and taken away. The whole audience gave long and warm applause to Premier Wen for his excellent speech.

The Chinese side has expressed its strong feelings against the occurrence of the incident. The British side said that they are very sorry that the incident should have happened and the person will be dealt with according to law. Facts have shown that the despicable behavior of the perpetrator is extremely unpopular and can in no way stem the tide of the growing friendly relations and cooperation between China and Britain.
