Chargé d'Affaires a. i. and Minister Yang Xiaoguang Has Video Conversations with New Ambassador of Nepal and Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore
2021-04-16 17:46

On April 15, Chargé d'Affaires a. i. and Minister Yang Xiaoguang had video conversations with H.E. Lokdarshan Regmi, new Ambassador of Nepal to the UK and Ms. Rozana Bte Abdul Majid, Deputy High Commissioner of Singapore to the UK.

Yang welcomed Ambassador Regmi to the UK, saying that China and Nepal are connected by mountains and rivers and enjoy continuous development in their traditional friendship and friendly cooperation. In 2019, President Xi Jinping and President Bhandari visited each other’s country and elevated China-Nepal relationship to a strategic partnership of cooperation featuring ever-lasting friendship for development and prosperity. The visits marked a new era in the relationship between the two countries. In the face of the challenges of Covid-19, the governments and peoples of the two countries stood in solidarity and helped each other to overcome difficulties, setting an example for international cooperation on pandemic response. Yang hoped that the two embassies will enhance communication and exchanges, so as to contribute to the friendly cooperation between China and Nepal.

Ambassador Regmi agreed with Minister Yang’s positive remarks on China-Nepal relationship, saying that China is an important neighbor and the friendly ties between Nepal and China go back a long way. He expressed thanks for the strong support of China to Nepal in the fight against the pandemic and looked forward to continued and enhanced practical cooperation between Nepal and China in various sectors with a view to delivering benefits to the people of the two countries.

During his conversation with Deputy High Commissioner Majid, Yang mentioned the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations which China and Singapore marked in 2020 through the exchange of congratulatory messages between President Xi Jinping and President Halimah, and between Primier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. In light of the changing international situation, China and Singapore display mutual understanding and support, and continued to advance their bilateral relations in keeping with the trend of the times and deepen practical cooperation in various sectors. The cooperation between the two countries goes beyond the bilateral scope and has an exemplary effect at the regional and international levels. Last year, the relationship between China and Singapore withstood the test of the pandemic, and the friendship between the peoples of the two countries deepened in their joint efforts to combat the virus.

High Commissioner Majid said the Singapore-China relationship is enjoying a sound development, with the two countries deepening their friendship in fighting the pandemic together. Singapore will continue to build an open economy, strengthen business cooperation with China, and promote cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the East and the West. She hoped that the two missions will maintain regular communication and work together to boost cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

Minister Yang also shared his views on China-UK relationship and information on China’s position with regard to Xinjiang and Hong Kong-related issues and climate change.
