On 19 December 2013, Madame Hu Pinghua, wife of Ambassador Liu Xiaoming, hosted a Christmas/New Year luncheon for the 48 Group Club Women's Icebreakers at the Ambassador's Residence. Some of the female diplomats from the Chinese Embassy joined the luncheon. Twenty women icebreakers from the British political, economic, legal, cultural and academic circles friendly towards China and devoted to promoting the development of China-UK relations attended the luncheon.
Madame Hu first wished the guests a merry Christmas and a happy Year of the Horse. She said that China-UK relations have embarked on a new voyage, and hoped that the women icebreakers may strengthen their contract with the women diplomats at the Embassy, deepen mutual understanding, and contribute to the growth of China-UK relations. Lady Katy Tse Blair, wife of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair's brother Bill Blair and a member of Women's Icebreakers, thanked Madame Hu Pinghua and the Chinese Embassy for the support of the organisation, and said that she would join hands with all the members of Women's Icebreakers in promoting the exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK in various fields and make contributions to the development of China-UK relations. Chief Executive Mandi Sturrock of the Women's Icebreakers also briefed Madame Hu on the information about the organisation.
During the luncheon, the two sides discussed on Prime Minister David Cameron's visit to China, China's economic reform and pension system and other topics of common interests.
