On 7 July, entrusted by Ambassador Liu Xiaoming, Charge D’Affairs Cong Peiwu of the Chinese Embassy met with Peng Shuai, winner of Wimbledon women’s doubles title and Sun Jinfang, Director of Tennis Administrative Centre, General Administration of Sport of China.
Mr. Cong Peiwu first conveyed warm congratulations from Ambassador Liu on the victory of Chinese tennis players at Wimbledon Championships. He said that Peng Shuai’s victory this time is of great significance for her victory marks that the six “Golden Flowers” at Chinese tennis court have all won a Grand Slam title or Olympic-level tournament championship. It is also the first time that two players with one from Chinese Mainland and the other from across the strait in Taiwan capture a Grand Slam trophy.
Peng Shuai said she is pleased to win Wimbledon women’s doubles title and get a Grand Slam trophy for the first time. She thanked Ambassador Liu and the Chinese Embassy for the congratulations and said that the motherland and its people will always be a strong support for her victory.
Mr. Cong Peiwu also paid sincere tribute to Director Sun Jinfang for her contribution to the tennis boom in China.
