Li Keqiang Attends 4th Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation
2021-11-16 18:33

On November 16, 2021, Premier Li Keqiang attended the 4th Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation hosted in Beijing via video link and delivered a speech.

Li Keqiang said, Africa is a continent of hope and strength. Over the years, China and Africa have supported and helped each other and forged an unbreakable friendship. President Xi Jinping and African leaders proposed to build an even closer China-Africa community with a shared future. The two sides should treat each other sincerely and as equals, enhance solidarity and mutual trust, seek inclusive and sustainable development, and expand pragmatic cooperation, so as to jointly create a bright future for the 2.7 billion Chinese and African people.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China is ready to increase the aid of vaccines and anti-pandemic materials to Africa within its capacity in light of Africa's needs, so as to build a solid defense line for people's health. The two sides should deepen the alignment of development strategies, further leverage the strengths of both sides in strong economic complementarities and industrial linkages, and improve the quality and efficiency of practical cooperation. The two sides should promote both quantity and quality of sub-national cooperation, enhance experience sharing in urban governance, poverty eradication, social development and agricultural modernization, and promote cooperation between sister cities. The two sides should uphold the common interests of developing countries, always adhere to the friendly traditions of mutual respect, equal treatment, solidarity and cooperation, uphold multilateralism and support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests and major concerns.

Li Keqiang said that the root of China-Africa cooperation lies in people while its source lies in exchanges. The stronger the foundation of China-Africa cooperation becomes, the deeper the friendship between the Chinese and African peoples will be. With joint efforts of both sides, there is much to be achieved and will be achieved through cooperation between local governments of China and Africa.

The 4th Forum on China-Africa Local Government Cooperation themed "Building a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future - Local Governments of China and Africa Work Together for Common Development". About 300 political leaders from African countries and responsible officials of local governments and relevant institutions in China and Africa attended the conference both online and offline.
