On the afternoon of October 21, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and his wife Madam Hu Pinghua attended the "Weaving Dreams, Spinning Wonders - a Showcase of the Dali, Rich Tapestry of Chinese Culture" event held during the 15th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) in London. Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London, Ronald Dennis CBE, former CEO of McLaren Group and Chairman of British East Asia Council, Sir John Peace, former Chairman of Burberry Group and Chairman of Midland Engine Initiative, Lady Barbara Judge, UK Business Ambassador and former Chairman of Institute of Directors, Xia Hua, Chairman of Eve Group, Liu Changle, Chairman of Phoenix Satellite Television Company and Member of the Standing Committee of CPPCC, Zhang Jinlong, Chairman of UK Chinese Business Association, and more than 500 Chinese and British guests and representatives of overseas Chinese business communities and media were present at the event.

Ambassador Liu delivered a speech, saying that holding this fashion show during the 15th WCEC bears special significance. It not only showcases the integration of Chinese ethnic culture with modern fashion, but also tells the story of Chinese enterprises that have carried forward the Chinese culture, the story of targeted and creative poverty reduction, and the story of China-UK exchanges and cooperation. He hoped that the entrepreneurs of China and the UK would hoist the sail in the breeze of the 15th WCEC and carry forward the spirit of "Embroidery Dreams", work together to create new business models, produce new outcomes, boost the mutual learning between Chinese and British culture, and write new stories of cooperation.

Xia Hua, Chairman of Eve Group, said in her speech that it was the third time for Eve China handicraft workshop to bring Chinese seamstresses to London to display Chinese embroidery and tell a China story. Such story carries the 5000-year Chinese culture and the spirit of Chinese craftsmanship. By holding the event, she hoped to present the Chinese esthetics, the Chinese fashion and the time-honoured uniqueness of oriental charm to the world, so as to help open a new chapter for the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK.

74-year old seamstress Pan Yuzhen from Guizhou's Miao ethnic group expressed her gratitude with great emotion when talking about the remarkable changes that Embroidery Dreams Project had brought to her life. She was very grateful to the policies and support by the Communist Party and the government that had brought happy lives to her family and her fellow villagers.

The fashion show started in the melodious of folk songs. Six seamstresses from Bai ethnic group from Dali, Yunnan province, made entrance into the show while singing the folk songs. Twenty-three Chinese and foreign models walked the runway and showcased 45 outfits inspired by embroidery elements of Bai group, staging a visual feast of oriental tradition and modern fashion.
