On 3 November, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming had an online meeting with Javier Esteban Figueroa, new Ambassador of Argentina to the UK.
Ambassador Liu extended welcome to the new Ambassador to the UK, saying that the bilateral relations between China and Argentina have developed smoothly over the past 40 years since the two countries established their diplomatic ties. President Xi Jinping and President Alberto Fernández have communicated with each other in writing or by telephone three times since this April, reaching key consensus on making joint effort to fight COVID-19 and stepping up the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. China and Argentina have deepened their mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields and maintained good cooperation in international affairs. As a good friend and partner of Latin American countries, China is willing to work with Argentina and other Latin American countries to strengthen unity and cooperation, achieve common development, and join hands to build a community with a shared future.
Ambassador Figueroa agreed with Ambassador Liu on his positive remarks about China-Argentina and China-Latin America relationships, saying that Argentina and China have enjoyed time-honoured friendship and are key partners in economic and trade sectors. He especially thanked China for its valuable support to Argentina in containing the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that Argentina is ready to enhance exchanges and cooperation with China in various fields and hoped that the two embassies would strengthen communication, so as to make contribution to the development of Argentina-China relationship.
The two sides also exchanged views on the current international situation and cooperation to tackle COVID-19.
