Ambassador Liu Xiaoming Has On-line Meeting with UK COP26 Regional Ambassador Sir Laurie Bristow
2020-07-12 22:47

In a recent on-line meeting with Sir Laurie Bristow, Regional Ambassador for COP26 of the UK Foreign Office, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming exchanged views with him on enhancing China-UK cooperation on climate change and biological diversity.

Ambassador Liu said, global environmental governance will come to a key juncture this and the following year. In light of this, leaders of China and the UK have reached an important consensus on further supporting each other in hosting the 15th Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 15) and the 26th session of the Conference of the Parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26). Not long ago, Huang Runqiu, Chinese Minister of Ecology and Environment, and Alok Sharma, UK Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, held their first meeting. The two sides agreed to step up coordination in hosting the two conferences, which would not only help enrich China-UK relationship but also promote the global leading roles of the two countries on climate change. China stands ready to maintain communication and cooperation with the UK side to ensure the success of both conferences.

Sir Bristow said that enhancing communication and cooperation between the UK and China in hosting the two conferences would help safeguard the effectiveness of multilateralism by mobilizing all parties to collaborate on climate change issues, promote green development and take joint actions to advance the process of global climate governance. The UK is also ready to keep close communication with China, so as to make the two conferences great success.
