Joint Team from Shandong Province Has Online Meeting with Chinese Students in the UK
2020-03-30 22:02

On 29 March, the joint team from Shandong Province had an online meeting with Chinese students in the UK at the Chinese Embassy. More than 500 students from Chinese Students and Scholars Association UK and other regional student associations joined the activity. Ambassador Liu Xiaoming and Wang Hua, Director of the joint team and Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Shandong Province, delivered speeches respectively and handed out "Health Kits" to student representatives at the meeting.

In his speech, Ambassador Liu said that it was the third time he had online communication with the Chinese students in the UK within a week. He mentioned the recent instructions by President Xi Jinping at many meetings of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee to strengthen the guidance and support to overseas Chinese on epidemic prevention and control, and to protect their safety and health. He said, while chairing the meeting of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee two days ago, President Xi stressed once again on caring for overseas Chinese, and the necessity for the overseas Chinese embassies and consulates to focus on consular protection, the guidance of epidemic prevention, and the provision of supplies to ensure Chinese nationals' safety and health. On Tuesday, President Xi had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during which Xi emphasized that the Chinese government attaches high importance to the health and safety of overseas Chinese, hoping that the British government would take effective measures to protect them, especially the Chinese students in the UK. The Ambassador mentioned the cares and regards from the CPC Party and the government and the urgently-needed epidemic prevention supplies and information brought by the joint team from Shandong Province led by Deputy Director Wang, saying that the joint team would take questions during the meeting.

Vice Chairman Wang said that this was the first time for Shandong Province to send a joint team to the UK to express sympathy and support to overseas students. He hoped to convey the concerns and cares of President Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee fully and effectively, share information on epidemic prevention and control, the economic and social development back in China, and the scientific protection methods and help to relieve anxiety among Chinese students, so as to let the students experience the warmth and concerns of the motherland.

The meeting lasted more than 2 hours, during which the presentations and the Q&A regarding the Covid-19 pandemic prevention and protection and mental health by the experts were warmly welcomed by the students and their parents back in China. The students expressed their gratitude to President Xi and the CPC Central Committee for their cares and concerns and the joint team from Shandong Province for bringing the regards and support from the motherland, saying that they will treat the pandemic in the UK scientifically and rationally and strive to study diligently while pay attention to epidemic prevention, so as to let the motherland and their family rest assured.
