
On 20 October 2023, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism hosted “Sichuan, More than Pandas” culture and tourism promotion event in London. Ms Tian Xiangli, Chairwoman of the Sichuan Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Minister Zhao Fei from the Chinese Embassy in the UK, and Mr John Mclean OBE, Chair of the China UK Business Development Centre, delivered remarks. Nearly one hundred representatives from the Chinese and British cultural and tourism communities participated in the event. In his speech, Minister Zhao said that President Xi Jinping proposed the Global Civilisation Initiative, calling on all countries torespect the diversity of civilizations, uphold the principles of equality, mutual learning, dialogue and inclusiveness among civilizations, and let cultural exchange transcend estrangement, mutual learning transcend clashes, and coexistence transcend feelings of superiority. Both China and the UK have splendid and rich cultural and tourism resources.Exchanges in culture and tourism not only bring economic benefits to the two countries but also help eliminate misunderstandings and barriers between the East and the West, contributing toglobal peace and development. At the event, the Sichuan cultural and tourism delegation presented tourism resources and culture, intangible cultural heritage performances, and an exhibition of landscape photos and cultural products, showcasing the distinctive charm of Sichuan's cultural and tourism resources.
