
On 25 September 2023, the Chinese Embassy in the UK held a reception in celebration of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Chargé d'Affaires Yang Xiaoguang of the Embassy delivered a speech, and Lord Johnson, Minister of State from the Department for Business and Trade, made remarks on behalf of the UK government. More than 500 guests representing different sectors in the UK and representatives from Chinese-funded institutions and Chinese students attended the event.
Chargé d'Affaires Yang extended, on behalf of Ambassador Zheng Zeguang and Embassy staff, a warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to the guests. With detailed data, he introduced the extraordinary achievements of China's economic and social development in the 74 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, and pointed out that the fundamentals of the Chinese economy, characterised by strong resilience, enormous potential, great vitality and long-term sustainability, remain unchanged and that there is a bright future for China’s economic prospects.
China will solidly promote high-quality development with a people-centered approach, commit to high-level opening up and keep to the path of peaceful development. Recently, exchanges between China and the UK at various levels have increased. The two sides should have a correct understanding of each other's development, expand mutually-beneficial cooperation, jointly respond to global challenges, and move bilateral relations forward on the right track.
On behalf of the UK government, Lord Johnson extended congratulations on the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, and spoke highly of China’s economic miracle. He said that UK-China relations are crucial and expressed readiness to strengthen engagement with China and jointly deal with major global issues. The guests expressed their willingness to continue to strengthen China-UK friendship and promote exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various areas.


During the reception, a short video was played, showcasing China's economic and social achievements. A book exhibition themed "Reading China" was held, and artistic troupes from Guangzhou province of China staged wonderful cultural performances. The reception was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
