Q&A on the Airline Boarding Requirement for Certificate of Negative Result of Nucleic Acid Tests for Covid-19
2020-08-20 04:44

In accordance with the announcement of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, the General Administration of Customs of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, foreign passengers who are to fly from the UK to China will be required to take a nucleic acid test for COVID-19 and apply for certified Health Declaration Form starting from 21 August 2020. The following Q&A are for your reference:

I Do I need to take the test at the hospitals or institutes designated by the Chinese Embassy or Consulates in the UK?

At this stage, the Chinese Embassy has not designated specific institutes to carry out the tests. Passengers can choose the hospital or institute in the UK to take the test according to his or her situation.

2 If I were to board a direct flight from the UK to China, could I board the airline on presentation of a nucleic acid test report with negative result issued by NHS within 5 days of the departure date of the flight?

Yes. You don't need to apply for a certified Health Declaration Form if you can present a nucleic acid test report with negative result issued by NHS within 5 days of the departure date of the flight. The airline will check the nucleic acid test report during check-in.

3 Do I need a certified Health Declaration Form if I want to fly to China via a third country or district?

Yes. You definitely need to apply for a certified Health Declaration Form. You are also advised to check the airline for further details of the requirement of the country or district you will transit through.

4 Do I need to bring a printout of the test report?

Passengers are advised to bring the nucleic acid test report (with negative result) to the airport in case of the need for further inspection.

5 Does a child under 5 need to take a test?

A child under 5 does not need to take the test if he or she is to fly to China on a direct flight from the UK and his or her accompanying parent(s) meet(s) the requirement of boarding. If he or she flies to China via a third country or district, please make inquiries with the relevant airlines for requirement of the country or district he or she will transit through.

6 When should I take the test?

Please make sure that the test report is issued within 5 days of the departure date of the flight to China. For example, if you take a flight from London to Shanghai via Paris, the report should be issued within 5 days of the departure date of the flight from Paris to Shanghai.

7 How long does it take for the Chinese Embassy and Consulates to certify a Health Declaration Form?

You are advised to apply for the certified Health Declaration Form at least one working day before the departure date.

8 Can I take an anti-body test instead of nucleic acid test for COVID-19 ?

No. Only nucleic acid test report for COVID-19 (PCR) with negative result will be accepted.

9 Do I need to be quarantined when I arrive in China if I have a nucleic acid test report of COVID-19 (PCR) with negative result in the UK?

Yes. Nucleic acid test report for COVID-19 (PCR) with negative result is the requirement for boarding. For quarantine requirement, please visit the website of the government of the entry city or province of China for further details.
