On 12 September 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang visited the University of Cambridge and met with its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Prentice. Ambassador Zheng and Professor Prentice discussed cooperation between Cambridge and Chinese universities. Ambassador Zheng noted that China has achieved great accomplishments in education over the 75 years since the founding of New China. China regards education, science and technology, and human resources as fundamental and strategic pillars for Chinese modernisation. The recently held National Conference on Education further clarified that China will continue to give high priority to education and support universities to actively participate in international exchanges. China and the UK have respective strengths in education and China-UK cooperation benefits both countries. It is hoped that Cambridge’s collaboration with China will deliver more fruitful outcomes. Professor Prentice talked about Cambridge’s pursuit of excellence and innovation, and about the prospect of continuing to develop mutually beneficial cooperation with Chinese universities. Ambassador Zheng also visited King’s College and had a talk with scholars, and visited the Maxwell Centre to learn its scientific research and cooperation with Chinese universities. Ambassador Zheng also met with 20 representatives of the Chinese students studying at the University, who shared their experiences at Cambridge. Ambassador Zheng briefed the students on the achievements of China’s development, inspired them to love the country, study hard, stay safe and support each other, and encouraged them to serve the country after graduation and become the pillar of building the country.
