Ambassador Zheng Zeguang visits Cardiff University
2022-07-09 14:01

On July 7, 2022, Ambassador Zheng Zeguang visited Cardiff University and met with the President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Colin Riordan. The two sides exchanged views in an in-depth manner on deepening exchanges and cooperation between China and Cardiff University.

President Riordan warmly welcomed Zheng Zeguang back to his alma mater after 36 years and updated the Ambassador on the University's latest progress in teaching, scientific research and exchanges and cooperation with Chinese universities in recent years. Riordan said that Cardiff University has established long-term cooperative relations with Xiamen University, Beijing Normal University and Peking University in China. The relevant projects are well received by teachers and students, and have played an important role in the improvement of teaching and scientific research capabilities on both sides. At present, Cardiff University has nearly 4,000 Chinese students who study hard and achieve good results and welcomes more outstanding Chinese students to come and study. He also expressed the hope to have more offline exchanges with Chinese universities after the pandemic. The University is also willing to strengthen cooperation with Chinese industry to promote the transformation and application of scientific research results.

Zheng Zeguang congratulated his alma mater on the great changes that have taken place over the years. Calling it a first-class research university in the UK, the Ambassador commended the University's profound historical heritage and open and diverse campus culture and the huge progress in recent years under the leadership of President Riordan. The Chinese side appreciates Cardiff University's firm commitment to promoting China-UK educational exchanges and cooperation, and appreciates the attention and care to Chinese students during the epidemic. Zheng recalled his experience as a student of Cardiff University College in the 1980s when China was in the early years of reform and opening up. Since then, China has undergone tremendous changes, the country's comprehensive strength and people's living standards have improved significantly, and socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. China adheres to comprehensive and deeper reforms and higher-level opening up to the outside world, and will continue to encourage Chinese universities to deepen exchanges and cooperation with Cardiff University. He hoped that Cardiff University would continue to play an exemplary role in China-UK educational exchanges and cooperation.
