Question: Recently, a British official posted irresponsible remarks on X about a Hong Kong SAR court's trial of the criminal case involving two editors of “Stand News”, making baseless allegation about press freedom in Hong Kong. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: Hong Kong upholds the rule of law. Hong Kong laws protect press freedom and freedom of speech, and in the meantime punish any criminals, which is essential for the rule of law. It is completely inappropriate and unacceptable for the relevant British official to make case for suspected criminals and point fingers at the trial of the criminal case in Hong Kong court. We urge British officials to stop disrupting the rule of law in Hong Kong and stop interfering in the internal affairs of China.
