Embassy Spokesperson on “Hong Kong independence” element Tony Chung’s fleeing to the UK
2023-12-29 13:45

Question: According to media reports, Tony Chung, former convenor of Studentlocalism, a “Hong Kong independence”  organisation, has fled to the UK and applied for "political asylum." What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: Hong Kong upholds the rule of law. All laws in Hong Kong must be observed and those who break the law must be held accountable. Those who think they can use foreign support and get away with legal consequences will not have their way and will be held accountable. Tony Chung has violated the supervision order and fled to the UK. The Hong Kong Correctional Services Department has issued a recall order, seeking his arrest. We urge the UK side to bring him to justice as soon as possible and repatriate him to Hong Kong.
