Question: Anne-Marie Trevelyan, Minister of State in the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, recently spoke for anti-China, destabilising forces in Hong Kong on social media, making groundless accusations about the human rights situation in Hong Kong. Does the Chinese Embassy in the UK have any comment on it? Embassy Spokesperson: We firmly oppose this British official’s act of pointing fingers at the rule of law and slandering the human rights situation in Hong Kong. The Chinese side fully protects the freedoms of speech, the press, and publication of Hong Kong residents in accordance with the law. At the same time, no one is above the law by using freedom as an excuse, and those who violate the law must be held accountable. The judiciary of the Hong Kong SAR handles cases in accordance with the law, and foreign government officials have no right whatsoever to interfere. The Chinese side urges British officials to respect facts and the rule of law, stop meddling in Hong Kong-related affairs, and stop interfering in China’s internal affairs.
