Question: It is reported that recently, citing “security risks”, the UK government has instructed departments to cease deployment of surveillance equipment produced by Chinese companies onto sensitive sites. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: We firmly oppose the UK’s practice of overstretching the concept of national security and suppressing Chinese companies with trumped-up excuses. Such a practice seriously violates market principles and international trade rules. It exposes a UK that follows US policies blindly and its lack of self-confidence which will further damage the UK’s international credibility and hurt its own interests. The Chinese side urges the UK side to stop its discriminatory practices against Chinese companies and stop undermining normal economic and trade activities between the two countries.
