President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan Attend Tea Hosted by U.S. President Donald J. Trump and Mrs. Trump
2026-09-26 07:07

On the morning of September 25 local time, President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan met with U.S. President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump at the White House for tea. The two heads of state agreed to add more substance to the characterization of China-U.S. relations and work together to build "a constructive relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness and reciprocity."

President Xi noted that this is his first visit to Washington, D.C. on a state visit in 11 years. During this visit, the two sides have added new substance to the characterization of China-U.S. Relations, agreed to build "a constructive relationship of strategic stability on the basis of respect, fairness and reciprocity," and secured economic and trade deliverables that are mutually beneficial. These outcomes will be welcomed by the people of the two countries and the international community.

President Xi underscored that the China-U.S. relationship has a bright future. This is the trend of history. At the same time, the road to a bright future is usually tortuous and there will always be difficulties and challenges. This is how things progress. "I am ready to work with President Trump, with courage and a sense of responsibility for history, to write a splendid chapter in the annals of China-U.S. relations," said President Xi.

President Trump said that President Xi's state visit to the United States has been very constructive and very successful. The two sides had in-depth discussions on U.S.-China relations and major international and regional issues, and reached many positive outcomes that are good for both sides. He looks forward to staying in touch with President Xi and jointly steering the development of this relationship.

After the tea, President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan visited the National Archives accompanied by President and Mrs. Trump. They walked into the Rotunda together and listened to introductions to the National Archives and the major items on display.

President Xi underscored that historical records carry the wisdom of forefathers and offer inspiration for the future. Two hundred and fifty years ago, people in America laid the foundation for a prosperous country and a beautiful home on the North American continent in pursuit of the American Dream. The Chinese people, carrying forward the 5, 000-year-old culture and traditions of the Chinese nation, are making new progress toward realizing the Chinese Dream of great national rejuvenation. China and the United States are distinct in many ways, with different histories, cultures, social systems and development paths. But the people of China and the United States are just like each other in aspiring for a better life. By recognizing and respecting the differences, understanding and learning from each other, focusing on the greatest common ground, lengthening the list of cooperation and properly managing differences, the two countries can achieve steady and long-term development of their relationship.
