At noon on October 22, 2024 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived in Kazan by special plane to attend the 16th BRICS Summit at the invitation of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

When the special plane arrived at Kazan International Airport, Head of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Rustam Minnikhanov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation Aleksey Pesoshin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, and senior officials from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warmly greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport. Guards of honor lined up on both sides of a red carpet to salute President Xi Jinping, and young Russian women dressed in national costumes welcomed him with traditional courtesy.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi, and other members of the entourage arrived on the same plane.

Chinese Ambassador to Russia Zhang Hanhui also greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport.
