2021-10-14 15:06

On October 14, 2021, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a phone conversation with Bruneian Second Minister of Foreign Affairs Erywan bin Pehin Yusof at the latter's request.

Erywan said that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of China-ASEAN dialogue relations. As the rotating chair of ASEAN, Brunei will make joint efforts with China and other ASEAN countries to make the major commemorative events and leaders' meeting a great success and push for greater progress in bilateral relations.

Wang Yi said that China attaches great importance to its relations with ASEAN. China appreciates and supports the critical role played by Brunei as the rotating chair and stands ready to work closely with ASEAN countries, and take the 30th anniversary as an opportunity to upgrade bilateral relations and make greater contributions to regional prosperity and stability.

The two sides exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar. Erywan said that as ASEAN's Special Envoy to Myanmar, he will continue to work in the ASEAN Way and advance the implementation of the five-point consensus reached by ASEAN. ASEAN appreciates and expects China to continue to play an important role in the issue of Myanmar.

Wang Yi said that Myanmar is a member of the ASEAN family. China always supports ASEAN in strengthening solidarity, properly handling the issue of Myanmar in the ASEAN Way, and playing a constructive role in Myanmar's peace, reconciliation and political transition process. China is delighted to see ASEAN's Special Envoy's visit to Myanmar as soon as possible to promote the peace negotiations in an objective, pragmatic and progressive attitude.
