
On 6 August 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang met with Lord Provost of Edinburgh Robert Aldridge in Edinburgh. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening engagement and cooperation between Chinese cities and Edinburgh in various fields. Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh Zhang Biao attended the meeting. Ambassador Zheng congratulated the successful hosting of the Edinburgh International Festival and spoke highly of Edinburgh’s fruitful exchanges and cooperation with Chinese cities. He said that Chinese cities and Edinburgh have enormous potential for cooperation in economy and trade, education, culture, tourism, and healthcare, among others. The two sides should strengthen dialogue and communication, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, and better benefit the people of both sides. Lord Provost Aldridge noted China’s remarkable development achievements. Edinburgh has long-standing and close cooperation with Chinese cities such as Shenzhen and Xi’an, and hopes to expand cooperation with the Chinese side in areas including education, culture, tourism and new energy. Edinburgh welcomes students and tourists from China and will work for closer people-to-people exchanges between the two sides.
