On 4 November 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang attended the presentation ceremony of the 2024 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad and presented certificates to the representatives of awardees in the UK.

In his remarks, Ambassador Zheng extended congratulations to the award-winning students and expressed appreciation to the members of the review panel and faculty representatives. He noted that 2025 marks the final year of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan period, during which the country has scored remarkable achievements and scaled new height in economic strength, scientific and technological strength, and comprehensive national strength. The Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China adopted the recommendations for the 15th Five-Year Plan, drawing up a blueprint for China’s economic and social development over the next five years. China’s development prospects are bright, and young people enjoy boundless opportunities for entrepreneurship and innovation. 

Ambassador Zheng encouraged Chinese students in the UK to keep in mind the earnest expectations of General Secretary Xi Jinping, pursue their personal aspirations as part of the national dream of development and prosperity, and undertake the historical mission of the new generation in advancing the great cause of building a great country and achieving national rejuvenation. He called on the students to remain true to their original aspiration of studying abroad to serve their country, work hard and persevere in their pursuit of excellence, and strive to become capable and committed young talents ready to shoulder important responsibilities. He stressed that the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in the UK will always be a home for Chinese students in the UK and will spare no effort in providing services and assistance.

Representatives of the award-winning students and the review panel also shared their thoughts at the ceremony. A total of 54 Chinese students in the UK received the 2024 Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad.
