
On 2 July 2025, Chinese Ambassador to the UK Zheng Zeguang met with a delegation from the British Chamber of Commerce in China, and had an in-depth exchange of views on China-UK economic and trade relations with Chair Chris Torrens and other members of the delegation. Ambassador Zheng pointed out that China is advancing Chinese modernisation through high-quality development and expanding high-standard opening up. Despite a complex and challenging external environment, especially as the United States pushes unilateralism and protectionism, the Chinese economy demonstrates strong resilience and maintains an upward trajectory. He affirmed China’s readiness to shared evelopment opportunities with businesses from the UK and other countries and explore new areas of mutually beneficial collaboration. It is hoped that the British Chamber of Commerce in China will continue to serve as a bridge and contribute to the sound and sustained development of China-UK economic and trade ties. Mr Torrens shared the main contents of the Chamber’s “British Business in China: Position Paper 2025”, noting that British companies attach great importance to expanding their presence in China. He affirmed the Chamber’s support for closer cooperation between Chinese and British companies and its commitment to promoting further growth of China-UK business ties. Yu Benlin, Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy, was also present at the meeting.
