Embassy Spokesperson on the Fifth Anniversary of the Global Development Initiative (III)

Question: How will China strengthen cooperation with other countries to further advance the GDI and ensure its effective implementation?

Embassy Spokesperson: The global development cause faces serious challenges, and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is lagging significantly behind. To further advance the GDI and ensure that development benefits reach more people, China stands ready to work with all parties to strengthen solidarity and coordination to fully implement the SDGs; remain action-oriented and pursue people-centred development; expand cooperation in key areas and accelerate empowerment-driven development; and strengthen partnerships to promote interconnected development.

Specifically, China will contribute to the China-UN Trust Fund Project for Statistical Capacity Development to support developing countries in enhancing their statistical and monitoring capacity for implementing the SDGs. China will carry out more practical cooperation projects that are “small and beautiful” and deliver tangible benefits to local communities. Under an engineering capacity-building programme, China will train 10,000 engineers for developing countries over the next five years, helping these countries improve their infrastructure and strengthen development resilience. China will also work with relevant parties to implement flagship GDI projects, such as “Digital South” and “Clean Stove”, to help Global South countries achieve digital transformation and green development.

As President Xi Jinping has said, “Only when countries develop together can there be true development; only when countries prosper together can there be true prosperity.” The GDI is open and inclusive, and welcomes the active participation of all parties. China stands ready to continue working with all countries to advance the GDI and support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, so that people around the world can share in development opportunities and pursue a better future together.
