Question: China is actively advancing the “AI Plus” initiative and advocating AI’s role in serving global development. How does China view the relationship between AI, modernisation, and global development?
Embassy Spokesperson: Artificial intelligence is not only a scientific and technological issue, but also one concerning development, livelihood and governance. Chinese President Xi Jinping has pointed out that scientific and technological achievements should not be exclusive, but accessible to, shared by, and beneficial to more countries and peoples. At present, AI is becoming an important engine driving a new round of economic growth and modernisation, while also creating new opportunities for implementing the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
In recent years, China has actively advanced the “AI Plus” initiative, promoting the deep integration of AI with the real economy. China has accelerated AI-enabled applications in manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, education, transport and urban governance, giving rise to a wide range of practical scenarios, and continuously injecting new momentum into high-quality development. China’s super-size market and complete industrial system have also provided broad space for AI innovation and its industrial application.
At the same time, China promotes the alignment of AI with the Global Development Initiative, and advocates greater use of AI to advance common development, improve people’s well-being and strengthen global governance capacity. AI holds broad application prospects in food security, public health, green and low-carbon development, inclusive education and poverty reduction, and can provide new impetus for sustainable development, particularly in developing countries.
China believes that modernisation is not the exclusive privilege of a few countries, and that the fruits of development in the intelligent era should not be monopolised by a small group of countries. A truly sustainable and dynamic development of AI should be sustained by cooperation and be open, inclusive, and shared by all. China has proposed the AI+International Cooperation Initiative, and stands ready to work with all countries, particularly Global South countries, to strengthen policy coordination and practical cooperation, explore new pathways to modernisation in the intelligent era, and ensure that the benefits of digital and intelligent development better reach all peoples, so as to inject new impetus into common development and prosperity.
