Question: The Financial Times has reported that during the recent conflict, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps used a “spy satellite” built and launched by a Chinese company to monitor US military bases and key civilian infrastructure in the Middle East. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: The Chinese Foreign Ministry has already responded to a related question. The Embassy has also made clear China’s principled position on this matter. I would like to reiterate that the report is not true. China has upheld an objective and impartial position. It has remained committed to promoting peace talks and supported relevant parties in properly addressing differences through dialogue and consultation. In its cooperation with relevant parties, China has maintained a prudent and responsible approach and strictly abided by international law and its international obligations. China will not provide any support to parties to the conflict that could aggravate tensions. We have noted that, in the absence of a sufficient factual basis, certain media outlets have engaged in speculative reporting and groundlessly linked China to the conflict. China firmly rejects this. We urge relevant parties to be objective, impartial and professional, and to do more to help de-escalate the situation and enhance mutual trust.
