Wang Yi Meets with German Chancellor's Foreign and Security Policy Advisor Jens Plötner
2023-05-31 23:55

On May 31, 2023, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi met in Beijing with German Chancellor's Foreign and Security Policy Advisor Jens Plötner.

Wang Yi said that as all-round strategic partners, China and Germany should not only maintain stable development of bilateral relations, but also work to contribute to jointly addressing global challenges. In the face of increasing instability and uncertainties in the international situation, China and Germany should join hands to make the seventh round of China-Germany intergovernmental consultation a success and send a positive signal to Europe and the world.

Noting that the world is diverse and colorful, Wang Yi stressed that mutual respect, treating each other as equals and peaceful coexistence should become the rules for major countries' interactions. China is committed to the path of peaceful development and has maintained a high degree of stability, continuity, openness and transparency in its domestic and foreign policies. China's economy is deeply integrated into the world. China will advance Chinese modernization on all fronts, pursue high-quality development and high-standard opening up, and share opportunities and pursue win-win cooperation with other countries. China's steady development and modernization of more than 1.4 billion people will make greater contributions to world peace, stability, development and prosperity.

Plötner said that the foundation of Germany-China relations is solid and Germany will continue to firmly pursue the one-China policy. The German side is full of expectations for the upcoming round of Germany-China intergovernmental consultation and will work together to speed up the preparatory work in multiple respects. A multi-polar world is an inevitable trend. Germany speaks highly of China's development achievements and attaches great importance to China's international influence, and stands ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation and jointly cope with the challenges posed by volatile situations.

The two sides also exchanged views on Ukraine and other international and regional issues of mutual interest and concern.
