Wang Yi Talks about the Consensus Reached at the Foreign Ministers' Meeting Among China and the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations with China
2022-04-29 23:22

On April 29, 2022, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Acting Prime Minister of Dominica Reginald Austrie co-chaired the Foreign Ministers' Meeting Among China and the Caribbean Countries Having Diplomatic Relations. Wang Yi said, the participants had an in-depth exchange of views and reached broad consensus on building an even closer China-Caribbean countries community with a shared future.

First, the two sides need to enhance political mutual trust, continue to support each other on issues concerning each other's core interests, and advocate and practice true multilateralism.

Second, the two sides need to work together to promote post-COVID economic recovery, pursue deeper and more substantive progress in Belt and Road cooperation, jointly implement the Global Development Initiative, and facilitate the upgrading of practical cooperation to boost the respective development of China and Caribbean countries.

Third, the two sides need to strengthen cooperation against the pandemic and on medical treatment, improve public health governance and build a China-Caribbean countries community of health. China will continue to provide anti-pandemic supplies and vaccines to Caribbean countries until the pandemic is finally defeated.

Fourth, the two sides need to build a pattern of diversified and interactive people-to-people exchanges, and actively consider the orderly post-pandemic resumption of people-to-people exchanges. China will increase the number of government scholarships to Caribbean countries.

Fifth, the two sides need to jointly address the challenge of climate change. China fully understands and supports the legitimate and reasonable concerns of the small island countries, and is willing to jointly promote the building of a fair and rational global climate governance system for win-win results.

Sixth, the two sides need to keep closer policy communication between China and Caribbean countries. China is ready to hold the eighth round of consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China and the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Caribbean countries as soon as possible and the second China-Caribbean Conference on Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Cooperation, maintain communication with Caribbean countries on holding the fourth China-Caribbean Economic and Trade Cooperation Forum, and arrange a special envoy for Caribbean affairs to visit Caribbean countries as early as possible.
