2010-09-10 05:26

On September 9, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming called on Philip Hammond MP, UK's Secretary of State for Transport.

Ambassador Liu congratulated Hammond on his appointment. He said that the China-UK relations are in good shape since the formation of the British Coalition Government. China is ready to work with the UK to constantly grow the China-UK strategic partnership. The two countries have great potential for cooperation in the field of transport, particularly in railway and road transportation and civil aviation, and China is ready to strengthen exchanges with the UK to achieve more substantive results in the bilateral cooperation.

Philip Hammond agreed with Ambassador Liu's comments on the bilateral relations , noting that the new British Government pays great attention to the development of its relations with China. In recent years, with its rapid economic development, China has made remarkable achievements in the field of transport infrastructures including highways, railways, etc., and transport may become one of the important fields for cooperation between the two countries. The United Kingdom is willing to further enhance the bilateral cooperation in the relevant fields.

Ambassador Liu listened to Hammond's brief on the high-speed railway construction projects and intelligent highway management systems in UK and discussed with him possibility of cooperation between the two sides.
