On 25 September 2024, the Chinese Embassy in the UK held a reception to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang delivered remarks, and Parliamentary Under-Secretary Catherine West at the FCDO spoke on behalf of the UK government at the reception. More than 500 guests from all walks of life in the UK, ambassadors from various countries to the UK, and representatives from the Chinese community, Chinese-funded institutions, and Chinese students attended the event.

In his remarks, Ambassador Zheng pointed out that over the past 75 years since the founding of New China, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, Chinese people of all ethnic groups have united as one and achieved miracles .In particular, in the new era, China has made historic achievements and gone through unprecedented transformation. China’s composite national strength has achieved historic growth, and its development has been an engine for the global economy and injected positive energy into world peace.

Ambassador Zheng noted that the Chinese people are going all out to achieve modernisation through our own path. With reform measures rolled out at the third plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee, China’s social vitality will be further unleashed, development momentum reinforced, and high-quality development boosted, and new opportunities will be created for China’s cooperation with other countries.

Ambassador Zheng pointed out that China and the UK should work together to follow up on the understanding between our leaders, uphold mutual respect, enhance engagement, and expand cooperation, so as to build a stable and mutually beneficial relationship and contribute to world peace and stability.

The atmosphere at the reception was warm and friendly. The guests spoke highly of the achievements New China has made in the 75 years since its founding. They saw great potential and bright prospects of China-UK cooperation, and expressed their readiness to continue to contribute to exchanges and cooperation between the two countries and the friendship between the two peoples.

A short video reflecting China’s achievements in economic and social development was played at the reception. Artists from China and the UK, as well as the choir of the Embassy and choir of China Construction Bank Corporation London Branch, presented wonderful cultural performances, winning rounds of applause and cheers.
