Ambassador Zheng Zeguang delivers a video address to UK Investment Conference hosted by CBBC
2024-09-25 00:00

On 24 September 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang delivered a video speech to the UK Investment Conference hosted by the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC).

Ambassador Zheng noted that in their recent phone call, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Keir Starmer agreed to enhance engagement and dialogue, expand practical collaboration, and broaden people-to-people ties, charting the way forward for the China-UK relationship.

Ambassador Zheng pointed out that efforts are being made  everywhere in China to implement the strategic plans made at the Third Plenum of the 20th CPC Central Committee to further deepen reform. With these efforts, China’s productive forces will be further unleashed, and the vitality of society further boosted. As part of the new round of plans, China will further reform the management systems for inward and outward investment.

Ambassador Zheng noted that the Labour government in the UK has set out its priorities for the country including growing the economy, improving people’s lives and accelerating the green transition. As such, great potential is in place for practical cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese government, as always, welcomes British companies for investment in China, supports Chinese companies in developing in the UK, and stands ready to work with the UK government to provide a fair, just and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from both countries.

Ambassador Zheng commended CBBC for its contributions to advancing China-UK collaboration in economy and trade, and thanked CBBC and the Chinese co-organisers for holding the Conference. He said that the Chinese Embassy in the UK looks forward to working more closely with CBBC and Chinese and UK business communities in a continuous effort to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and the sound and steady development of the overall bilateral relationship.

The UK Investment Conference was held in Shanghai on 24 September 2024. Around 200 guests from the UK government as well as Chinese and British business communities attended the event.
