On 3 August 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang paid a field trip to the headquarters of CNOOC Petroleum Europe in Aberdeen, and had discussions with the company’s project operations team and representatives of its UK partners. Ambassador Zheng was briefed by Pan Yiyong, President of CNOOC Petroleum Europe, and others on the company's operations in the UK, and fully recognised the good performance achieved by it. Ambassador Zheng pointed out that the recent third plenary session of the CPC Central Committee made strategic plans for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernisation. China's pursuit of high-quality development and high-standard opening up will create new opportunities for Chinese enterprises' overseas development and for China-UK energy cooperation. He hoped that the CNOOC Petroleum Europe will remain innovative and proactive, and achieve greater success while better serving China's high-quality development. He encouraged the company to continue exploring and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation with their UK counterparts, which can serve as a valuable illustration for energy collaboration between the two countries. Pan Yiyong said that CNOOC Petroleum Europe will proactively advance its projects in the UK, strengthen collaboration with its British partners, fulfil corporate social responsibility, and aim for steady and sustainable development in the UK. Counsellor Hua Mei, wife of the Ambassador, Chinese Consul General in Edinburgh Zhang Biao, Minister Counsellor Bi Haibo and Counsellor Kong Xiangwen from the Chinese Embassy participated in the trip.
