On 31 July 2024, H.E. Ambassador Zheng Zeguang and his wife Councellor Hua Mei hosted a welcoming reception at the Embassy for Chinese and British professionals attending medical and healthcare changes and training in the UK. More than 90 people from British medical institutions and Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces of China joined the event. Ambassador Zheng pointed out in his remarks that China is going all out to build a Healthy China and has established the world’s largest basic healthcare insurance network. The third plenary session of the CPC Central Committee has set out an ambitious blueprint for further deepening reform comprehensively to advance Chinese modernisation, and part of the blueprint is reforming medical and healthcare systems, implementing a health-first strategy, and opening the medical services sector wider to the world. This will provide more opportunities for collaboration between China and other countries, including the UK. Ambassador Zheng stressed that the mission of promoting human health transcends borders and requires exchanges and cooperation among all countries. China and the UK, each with its own features and strengths in the medical and healthcare field, can complement each other and achieve win-win through closer interactions and cooperation. It is hoped that the medical and healthcare communities of the two countries will step up engagement and communication and build more platforms in this regard, and make greater contributions to the health and well-being of the Chinese and British people and to the building of a global community of health for all. Chinese and British professionals attending the reception shared their thoughts on exchanges and training in the UK, and expressed their readiness to continue playing an active part in promoting engagement and cooperation on medical and healthcare services between China and the UK.
