Ambassador Zheng Zeguang Visits the University of Glasgow

On 22 June, Ambassador Zheng Zeguang visited the University of Glasgow, where he met with the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University Antonio Muscatelli, toured the University's Hunterian Museum and held talks with Chinese students at the University.

During his meeting with Principal Muscatelli, Ambassador Zheng said that the University of Glasgow is one of the oldest universities in Scotland with outstanding teaching and research capabilities, and a magnet for many Chinese students. Currently, more than 6,500 Chinese students are studying here. He expressed appreciation to the University for taking care of the Chinese students during the pandemic and providing them with a sound study environment. In recent years, the University and several Chinese universities, including Nankai University and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, have carried out close exchanges and cooperation in the fields of economics, life sciences and electronics engineering with good results. China supports Chinese universities in continuing and deepening their friendly exchanges with the University of Glasgow and creating more highlights of cooperation.

Ambassador Zheng also talked about the important achievements of China in coordinating pandemic prevention and control and economic and social development, and the progress in China's education reform and development. He stressed that China adheres to the "dynamic zero" policy, and is making every effort to contain the new outbreak of Omicron variant and to promote orderly resumption economic activities and daily life. He believes that china-UK education cooperation and people-to-people exchanges will embrace more opportunities once the pandemic is over.

Principal Muscatelli said that the University of Glasgow attaches great importance to the cooperation with China and that academic exchanges with Chinese universities are mutually beneficial and in the interests of both sides. The University continues to welcome Chinese students. 

During the visit, Ambassador also toured the Hunterian Museum.
