Recently, the Spokesperson of Chinese Embassy in the UK made a letter to the Telegraph, to refute its report on the United Front work of the Communist Party of China. The content of the letter is as follows:
Your report published on 18 December 2024 falsely accused that the United Front work led by the Communist Party of China is China's "magic weapon" to expand influence abroad and to shape the global political environment. By pinning on China with labels of collecting intelligence, spreading ideology, implementing transnational repression, and imprisoning foreigners, it slandered and smeared China, the Communist Party of China and China's United Front work. The reporter claims to be an expert on China, but cannot even figure out China’s highest administrative organ, which is laughable. This report is full of ignorance and prejudice, seriously misleading the public. I’d like to stress as follows:
Firstly, the CPC-led United Front endeavors to bring together various political parties and people from all walks of life, ethnic groups and organizations. Simply put, it aims to promote cooperation between the CPC and people who are not members of it. By uniting overseas Chinese nationals including students, the Chinese side helps give full play to their role as a bridge linking China with the rest of the world to promote people-to-people exchange and nurture friendship. Its work is transparent, above-board and beyond reproach.
Secondly, China has always abided by international laws, respected judicial sovereignty of other countries and safeguarded the human rights. The accusations of so-called China’s secret police stations abroad, carrying out transnational repression, illegally imprisoning foreigners, and so on, are false information, which are purely fabricated and spread by anti-China groups to discredit China.
Thirdly, the Confucius Institute plays roles as bridges and ties which help people from all countries including the UK to study Chinese language and to get to know about China, and advance these countries educational and cultural exchanges and cooperation with China. The Confucius Institutes jointly run by British and Chinese universities operate well. Their management is open and transparent, they comply with local laws and regulations, and adhere to educational norms. They have made positive contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between Britain and China and are widely welcomed and recognized by British society.
Forthly, the foundation of China-UK relations is win-win cooperation, its premise is mutual respect and its key is to properly handle differences. A long-term and stable development of China-UK relations is in the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is conducive to promoting world peace, stability and development. Any attempt to disrupt the normal exchanges and cooperation between China and the UK by hyping up so-called "Chinese spies" seriously violates the will of the two peoples and the historical trend, and will ultimately fail.
I urge The Telegraph to abandon ideological prejudice, respect facts and history, stop making unwarranted attacks against China, stop spreading clamour for confrontation, and conduct reports in an objective and fair manner.
