Question: On January 7, the UK Parliament heard an urgent question during which UK politicians made irresponsible remarks criticising the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Police's law enforcement actions against anti-China individuals seeking to destabilise Hong Kong. What is your comment? Embassy Spokesperson: I have stated China’s position on this matter on December 14 last year. The Hong Kong SAR police's law enforcement actions against absconders who engaged in anti-China activities and sought to destabilise Hong Kong are necessary measures to uphold the rule of law and safeguard national security in Hong Kong. This is beyond reproach. Hong Kong is governed by the rule of law, and any illegal criminal behaviour should be punished by law. We urge UK politicians to recognise the reality and major trend, abandon their colonial mentality, stop interfering in Hong Kong-related affairs under the pretext of the Sino-British Joint Declaration, and stop undermining the rule of law in Hong Kong.
