Embassy Spokesperson on certain British MPs’ wrongful remarks related to Hong Kong
2024-11-21 06:14

Question: Recently, some members of UK Parliament, together with some parliamentarians from certain countries, signed an open letter calling for the immediate release of Jimmy Lai. What’s your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: We strongly condemn the malicious words and deeds of the relevant British politicians to interfere in China's internal affairs and smear and undermine Hong Kong’s rule of law.

Hong Kong upholds the rule of law. Laws must be observed and lawbreakers must be brought to justice. This is a basic principle. Jimmy Lai was a mastermind and instigator of the anti-China riots in Hong Kong, and his crime of colluding with external forces to disrupt Hong Kong and incite division has long been exposed to the world. Hong Kong court’s trial of the Jimmy Lai case is entirely in accordance with the law and brooks no interference. The relevant British politicians’ blatant meddling in Hong Kong’s justice in total disregard of the facts and the rule of law will only lay bare their arrogance and is a desecration of the rule of law.

The above-mentioned British politicians must have a clear understanding of the situation, stop interfering in China's internal affairs and stop using Hong Kong related affairs to seek attention. Otherwise, they will only bring disgrace to themselves.
