Embassy Spokesperson on Taiwan-related issue at a British think tank
2024-06-21 06:03

Question: According to reports of Taiwan media, on 20 June, Taiwan’s deputy leader Hsiao Bi-khim attended and addressed an event organised by the British think tank Chantam House via video link, spreading “Taiwan independence” rhetoric. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: We firmly oppose any organisation providing platform for “Taiwan independence” elements. We urge the British government and organisations to respect China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and stop emboldening “Taiwan independence” separatists. Any act that violates the one-China principle and interferes in China's internal affairs will be met with resolute response from China.

We would also like to warn the Taiwan authorities that relying on foreign support leads nowhere and pursuing “Taiwan independence” is a dead end.
