Embassy Spokesperson on the Hong Kong SAR government’s cancellation of HKSAR passports of six persons who have absconded to the UK
2024-06-12 11:00

Question: Today, the Hong Kong SAR government announced the cancellation of HKSAR passports of six persons who have absconded to the UK. These individuals are charged on suspicion of having committed offences including incitement of secession and collusion with a foreign country. What is your comment?

Embassy Spokesperson: You may have noticed the respective statements of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Hong Kong SAR government. Law Kwun-chung and others have long been engaging in anti-China activities aimed at destabilising Hong Kong. Their egregious moves gravely jeopardise national security, severely harm the fundamental interests of Hong Kong, and have a serious impact on the bottom line of One Country, Two Systems. The measures to be taken by Hong Kong police against these people under the Safeguarding National Security Ordinance are a just move to uphold the rule of law in Hong Kong and what is required to safeguard national security. They are reasonable, legitimate and legal. Hong Kong affairs are purely China’s internal affairs and brook no meddling by any external forces.
